From November 20, 2005
Over the years—whether through age or
through necessity—I have gradually metamorphosed into a Take Action sort of
person: someone who just likes to get things DONE. I have noticed that I no
longer have the patience to pointlessly evade the issues at hand. I am not a
big volunteer, but I have found that if I believe in the cause, and no one else
is willing, I will take the cause.
This can be good. This can be bad.
This is good because I find myself
doing things I ordinarily would not have done. It is good because this means
that a cause in which I believe, is getting done. This also means that I have
allowed myself to grow by adding another facet to whatever preexisting
knowledge I may have had on the subject.
This is bad because it makes me
vulnerable to taking on more than I should, and allows others to take advantage
of my willingness to serve, or to get something done.
For the most part, I believe that what
I am doing is right, and I feel good that I am accomplishing something, not
just for me, but for many others as well. If I don’t stand up and take action,
then I am partly responsible for its lack of completion and the consequences
that follow. If it is something that can only be accomplished by me, then I am
completely responsible for what follows.
I have a note I put on my list of
everyday Things To Do: Just Do It. This can be expanded upon— Do It… Do it
right… Do it right now. I like that.
I hope we will all have the courage to
Take Action on the things we believe in—whether it be on a group level or a
personal dream we hope to accomplish, or a family goal. Take the time to gather
your courage, even if you don’t feel like it—and do it. It might just turn out
to be well worth the effort!!
