Every woman is obsessed with her weight, regardless of how big or
small we may think she is. I was never worried about my weight as a kid or
young adult because it was so easy to go up or down, as desired. I seemed to
gain about 2 permanent pounds with each child (multiply that by six!!) that
never came off. It was still not what I consider a problem.
Then I hit 40. Extra holiday pounds didn't come off so easy. Then
I hit 44 and everything fell apart all at once. Since then it has been a
struggle. I was always hungry! I knew I wasn't eating healthy-- too many sugary
foods, processed foods.
I was always researching all the newest diet fads, but didn't
approach any of them seriously until I read these two books:
"The Schwarzbein Principle" by Diana Schwarzbein,
M.D. and Nancy Deville and "Ageless" by Suzanne
Somers. Suddenly, a lot of things started making sense.
Having a background in medicine, it also made good medical sense
to me as well. I couldn't find any problems with it. The bottom line was quite
simple: fat doesn't make you fat; sugar makes you fat!!! To simplify it, our sugar receptors (as I'll call them) fill up and
can't absorb any more, so everything gets transformed into fat. There is no
magic pill to counter this effect: just stop eating sugar. Eat a diabetic's
diet.
