Do Some Good (July 2010)

From July 30, 2010

Is it luck?  Or is it divine intervention?  I have always believed that things happen to us for a reason.  If we win a lottery of some kind, for whatever reason unbeknownst to us at the time, there is a reason for winning.   Some may call it a stroke of luck: good timing; being in the right place at the right time; the right medical intervention to save a life; I could go on.  But I believe it is more than luck.
I believe that sometimes, God has to give us a swift kick in the seat of the pants.  Sometimes he needs to say “Enough already!”  (Silence.)  “Now go and do what you were called to do!”  So the next time you have a stroke of luck, think back to the “good” you can do with that luck.  Make sure your priorities are right.  Think to yourself, “Have I done any good in the world today?”
So, if you are still waiting for that stroke of luck to come in, you might want to think again.  Your stroke of luck may come at a price.  You know what they say: Be careful what you wish for.  Can you afford the price?  Snap out of it.  Don’t wait for luck to come to you.  Go donate an hour at a Soup Kitchen.  Help someone with an infant and a heavy load of groceries.  Call your parents and tell them you love them.  Go touch some lives today.
