Today's packing goal was the Living Room.
Made it through about 3/4 until I ran out of small boxes -- lots of school
books and CDs left, stereo system as well as photos from the walls and computer
stuff which we'll do last.
Besides Ed's "Let's Rip into Katie and Use Her For Packing Material" mentality, and the fact that the Broncos lost against the Colts (again), it wasn't a totally bad day. The Seahawks won, and at least I felt healthy enough to get some packing done in the first place.
Marie wanted to keep her rainbow-fish tank because we thought we found a great place for it in the Oak Harbor house. So we looked at the U-Haul website to see if maybe we could get a cargo van that Alex could drive, but there weren't any available in the area for our moving dates. So then we looked up how much a small trailer would be in addition to the 26-foot truck we had reserved (23-ft main body) and we found one for $109. It would just fit the 125-gal. fish tank and all the supplies and other small items (like plants).
Marie called her dad and naturally, he wasn't happy. He contradicted himself so many times in the same phone call it was sad. He was insisting that he sell the tank for $150 (could actually sell with all equipment and tropical rainbow fish for at least $300) and use it for the move, to give to her, or to apply to her college laptop, all in the same phone call. Then he said he already asked the guy driving the U-Haul if he could pull a trailer and the guy refused to pull a trailer (the one we wanted was like a mini-mini trailer).
Within minutes, he called me and was yelling and screaming about how I set Marie up to this -- about how I told him he could sell the tank (I told him it was Marie's and he would have to ask her), about how he's not coming away with anything (he doesn't want anything-- he can take whatever he wants). Just very irrational. He can be so hateful and hurtful and trying everything he can to make this as difficult as he possibly can, and in turn it hurts the kids.
Regardless, I'm not sure we can fit everything in the truck. I don't know what we're going to do when stuff doesn't fit -- just have to go through boxes and start over-- a nice painful process, just the way he is hoping it will go. We won't be able to bring any of my plants and will likely end up bringing only the bare necessities, which really is fine with me.
Wanted to get me a Kyle Orton jersey -- but won't be able to wear it in public in Washington.... they really love their Seahawks!! But I don't really want a Hasselbeck jersey....
